A.M. Best Co. has revised the outlook to positive from stable and affirmed the financial strength rating of B+ (Good) and issuer credit rating of “bbb-” of SUA Insurance Company (SUA) (Chicago, IL).

The ratings and outlook reflect SUA’s solid capitalization, improved underwriting and operating performance and the financial flexibility afforded to SUA through its publicly traded parent, Specialty Underwriters’ Alliance, Inc. [NASDAQ: SUAI]. The ratings also recognize SUA’s experienced management team and its prudent business plan.

Somewhat offsetting these positive rating factors are the challenges associated with operating a relatively new company, the successful execution of its business plan, the immaturity of its book of business and the potential for reserves to develop differently than expected.
